CLIMATE: A Greenpeace submission-writing party
Join our online submissions party to help tell the Government to take the climate crisis seriously and bring agriculture into the Emissions Trading Scheme!
Right now, there’s a bill open for submissions - the 'Climate Change Response (Emissions Trading Scheme Agricultural Obligations) Amendment Bill' - that if passed will take the agriculture sector out of the Emissions Trading Scheme.
The Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is the pricing mechanism that is designed to incentivise the economic market to reduce greenhouse emissions.
While the ETS is far from perfect, it's an important policy mechanism. By removing agriculture, which is responsible for about 50% of New Zealand's emissions, our climate response will be severely weakened.
Everyone else is paying for the climate pollution of the agriculture sector, and the danger is that it will weaken support for climate action itself.

Now is the time to do more, not less. There’s still time for Christopher Luxon’s Government to change their minds.
In this submission party the Greenpeace crew will share a breakdown on the Bill.
It's a Zoom event designed for anyone to be able to share your story, your perspective, and your opinions with the politicians who are making these decisions.
Together we'll walk through how to make a submission, what the Government should do instead, and why its important. You'll also have the chance to talk with others who are equally passionate about urgent climate action.
