Free Drop-in Nitrate Water Testing - Glennavy

Everyone should be able to trust that the water from their tap is safe to drink. That’s why worsening nitrate contamination in drinking water is concerning.

For households on bore water in regions with intensive dairying or high synthetic nitrogen fertiliser use, the problem is getting worse.

Nitrate in drinking water is linked to increased risk of bowel cancer, Blue Baby Syndrome and preterm birth.

If you’re wanting to know the nitrate levels in your drinking water, please attend a free drop-in water testing day hosted by Greenpeace. You do NOT need to register to attend but it helps us plan for numbers.

Bring 200mL of your bore water in a clean container. Ideally, run the tap for 2 minutes before filling the container. We’ll test your water for nitrate while you wait and give you the result and information about what your nitrate level means.

We want to ensure healthy drinking water for all.

You can also attend this public meeting on tuesday night, with the University of Otago's Dr Tim Chambers:
